The Thrill Of The Speed Of Life

It has been a journey. A long road for sure. Plenty of ups, plenty of downs. I’m not sure that I can recall specifically when we decided to record, or when we did lay down the first tracks. I think it was 2005. It is now half way through 2010. It should not take that long to make a record. The Beatles put out something like 8 albums in their first 5 years, all of them better than ours for sure. I am in no way suggesting that we are comparable to them, but why did it us take so long? Life and art collide. I’m convinced that the best art comes from perspectives gained from experience. We collectively and certainly gained perspective in the last 5 years: we have added members to our families, lost members of our families, suddenly lost hearing in one of our ears, designed and redesigned and re-redesigned and built a recording studio, had multiple surgeries on multiple body parts, endured moves, etc. In the end, it is all part of the ride, and a thrilling ride it is. Glad you stopped by to join us, I hope you enjoy The Thrill Of The Speed Of Life with us.
-Tim

Live video and Tim Solo this Saturday

Hey gang,

A couple of cool things for you:

1. Tim is playing a super-cool solo acoustic show on Saturday night at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. He is opening a special night of acoustic rock headlined by Roger Clyne and PH from the Peacemakers. Whalen has played a number of rocking good shows in the past with Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers and this acoustic night should provide a cool, quieter, more intimate spin on that rocking good time. Looking forward to it, hope to see you there. BTW- if you have not got your tickets yet, be sure to get them right here- they are only $14 here, they are $18 everywhere else.

2. We posted some live video clips of 2 of the tunes on The Thrill Of The Speed Of Life on YouTube. Check 'em out!

Update for 08

Hi kiddies. Long time no update. Thanks for stopping by. Collectively we have been through a few surgeries, injuries, additions to our families in the last few months. We have been laying low. But that is about to change...
I am happy to report that the studio construction is finally complete and we christened it with a healthy dose of rock and roll recently. Felt good. We are looking forward to creating some great new music in there. It has been over a year since our last live show- rumors have been swirling that that is about to change. I can confirm those rumors. Look for us to play live in So Cal in August. Details to follow. We should debut some new tunes as well as rock some stalwarts into the set list. Should be a blast. Looking forward to playing again and seeing your familiar faces there.

Long live Kilgore Trout

Hi kiddies.

Thanks for stopping by. I read today that Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. died yesterday. He is quite possibly my favorite writer of all time. His novels, short stories and essays often make me laugh, inspire me to think, and motivate me to create all at the same time. I am a fan of writers and artists who can communicate much through minimal words. Vonnegut did this nicely. People who “get” Vonnegut understand that his works are commentaries on the common and ordinary told through the tales of the extraordinary and uncommon (sometimes even through sketches, *!). So do yourself a favor and pick up Slaughterhouse Five, Cat’s Cradle, Breakfast of Champions, or my personal favorite: Sirens of Titan. Enjoy. Kilgore Trout lives on”¦

Peace.

Tim
