The Thrill Of The Speed Of Life - July 8, 2010

It has been a journey. A long road for sure. Plenty of ups, plenty of downs. I’m not sure that I can recall specifically when we decided to record, or when we did lay down the first tracks. I think it was 2005. It is now half way through 2010. It should not take that long to make a record. The Beatles put out something like 8 albums in their first 5 years, all of them better than ours for sure. I am in no way suggesting that we are comparable to them, but why did it us take so long? Life and art collide. I’m convinced that the best art comes from perspectives gained from experience. We collectively and certainly gained perspective in the last 5 years: we have added members to our families, lost members of our families, suddenly lost hearing in one of our ears, designed and redesigned and re-redesigned and built a recording studio, had multiple surgeries on multiple body parts, endured moves, etc. In the end, it is all part of the ride, and a thrilling ride it is. Glad you stopped by to join us, I hope you enjoy The Thrill Of The Speed Of Life with us.

Live video and Tim Solo this Saturday - May 4, 2010

Hey gang,

A couple of cool things for you:

1. Tim is playing a super-cool solo acoustic show on Saturday night at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. He is opening a special night of acoustic rock headlined by Roger Clyne and PH from the Peacemakers. Whalen has played a number of rocking good shows in the past with Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers and this acoustic night should provide a cool, quieter, more intimate spin on that rocking good time. Looking forward to it, hope to see you there. BTW- if you have not got your tickets yet, be sure to get them right here- they are only $14 here, they are $18 everywhere else.

2. We posted some live video clips of 2 of the tunes on The Thrill Of The Speed Of Life on YouTube. Check 'em out!

Oh happy day! We are returning to the stage. Long overdue, to be sure. But we will make it worth your while. We are playing at the Coach House, (one of our favorite venues) with The Desert Rose Band. They had a string of chart- toppers and awards in the mid 80s & early 90s. They were founded by Chris Hillman (The Byrds & The Flying Burrito Brothers) and feature sweet vocal harmonies and world-class musicianship.

Update for 08 - June 18, 2008

Hi kiddies. Long time no update. Thanks for stopping by. Collectively we have been through a few surgeries, injuries, additions to our families in the last few months. We have been laying low. But that is about to change...
I am happy to report that the studio construction is finally complete and we christened it with a healthy dose of rock and roll recently. Felt good. We are looking forward to creating some great new music in there. It has been over a year since our last live show- rumors have been swirling that that is about to change. I can confirm those rumors. Look for us to play live in So Cal in August. Details to follow. We should debut some new tunes as well as rock some stalwarts into the set list. Should be a blast. Looking forward to playing again and seeing your familiar faces there.

Help Whalen get the gig with Hootie & The Blowfish - September 17, 2007

Hey gang, thanks for stopping by. While we haven't been out there playing live lately, rest assured that we have been busy, busy, busy.

We may be knocking the rust off of our musical gears very quickly- and you can help! See, we have been selected as a semi-finalist in a contest on Mix 96.9 fm (Phoenix), the winner of the contest opens for Hootie and the Blowfish at the Jobing.com (hockey) arena in Phoenix. Cool, right? Here's what you can do to help: simply go to http://www.mix969.com/pages/Rockstar.html and vote for your pals, Whalen. You can vote as often as you like, and voting is open through the end of September. So vote for Whalen, and maybe we will see you in the Valley of the Sun in just a few weeks.

Long live Kilgore Trout - April 12, 2007

Hi kiddies.

Thanks for stopping by. I read today that Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. died yesterday. He is quite possibly my favorite writer of all time. His novels, short stories and essays often make me laugh, inspire me to think, and motivate me to create all at the same time. I am a fan of writers and artists who can communicate much through minimal words. Vonnegut did this nicely. People who “get” Vonnegut understand that his works are commentaries on the common and ordinary told through the tales of the extraordinary and uncommon (sometimes even through sketches, *!). So do yourself a favor and pick up Slaughterhouse Five, Cat’s Cradle, Breakfast of Champions, or my personal favorite: Sirens of Titan. Enjoy. Kilgore Trout lives on…

Peace.

Tim

Update - August 30, 2006

Hey gang, thanks for stopping by. I wanted to give you an update on the band that we like to call Whalen.

We (Darren, Scott, & Bob) are almost done building the studio. We will then complete the recording of our CD. Yes, the same one we have been promising for some time. ETA for said CD is somewhere after the 1st of the year. Really. I mean it.

We will resume playing live soon. Look for an announcement of a super-cool show coming very soon...

Happy New Year - January 23, 2006

Yeah, so the greeting is a little late. But rest easy, the sentiment is genuine.

I thought I'd let you know just what we are up to since we do not have any shows lined up right now. We are working on getting a new CD together for you to enjoy. Sure, we have been promising this for a while now, but it has transformed into a cool project. We (mostly Scott, Darren and Guitar Bob) are building a studio in which we will record the CD, we will also use the studio to rehearse in and junk. So first the studio must be completed, then the CD must be completed. We have some cool new songs that will likely show up on the disc. Some tunes that we have been playing at shows for a while like "Better All The Time" and "Gringo Pass" will certainly make the CD too. You can preview "Where Have You Gone" right here at our little website to whet your audio appetite.

You can also go to www.creamyradio.com to listen to the live show we played in Tempe, AZ in December. It is archived there to stream on demand. It is free and easy, just like life...

We have had some feedback urging us to have a presence on MySpace.com, we will put something up there for all you MySpace addicts out there soon.

So, to sum up what we have planned for 2006: Finish studio, finish CD, then resume fun live shows. Stay tuned... Thanks for your support and thanks for stopping by the site. Now get back to work.
